Edgar Wright’s upcoming remake of the 1987 film The Running Man starring Glen Powell today received a release date from Paramount of November 21, 2025, Variety reports.
It was previously announced that The Running Man would begin filming this fall in London, starring Powell in the role created by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1987 and based on Stephen King’s 1982 novel. It is set in a dystopian 2019 where criminals participate in a TV competition and are hunted by professional killers.
Other Paramount films also saw some changes to their release dates for next year, including the animated Smurfs musical starring Rihanna as Smurfette jumping from February 14 to July 18. Rihanna is joined by a stacked cast including Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne and JP Karliak. , Dan Levy, Amy Sedaris, Nick Kroll, James Corden, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Alex Winter, Billie Lourd, Xolo Maridueña, Kurt Russell and John Goodman.
Paramount also moved the reboot of Naked Gun starring Liam Neeson from July 18 to August 1, and the horror film Vicious starring Dakota Fanning was moved from August 8 to February 25.
Historical drama September 5 was also given a limited release date of November 29, 2024 and a full release on December 13, 2024. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival earlier this year.
Powell himself has been busy this year, with a starring role in Twisters, a hint at a Top Gun: Maverick sequel, and an appearance in the upcoming Family Guy Halloween special.
