Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is already a huge hit, breaking sales milestones and establishing itself as perhaps the most popular Warhammer 40,000 video game so far. Developer Saber Interactive is well aware of this and is acting to reinforce it Space Marine 2‘s reputation among fans by promising regular updates and new content. Just a week ago, the third big one Space Marine 2 update brought a number of improvements to online multiplayer, as well as adjustments to balance both PVP and PVE gameplay.
However, Saber Interactive is not done with the game yet. In a new community update posted to the Space Marine 2 official website and via the game’s Steam store page, the studio teased a number of new additions coming in October 2024, including a new map for the Space Marine 2 Operational mode. Operations are cooperative multiplayer missions that pit a team of three Space Marines against hordes of enemies in pursuit of varied mission objectives.
Developers promise new operation in Space Marine update October 2, 2024
Saber Interactive’s post teased some details about the upcoming one Space Marine 2 Operational mode map. The map is set on the forested planet Kadaku, a world almost completely conquered by the Tyranid Swarm. Players will take on the role of Space Marines sent to aid the Cadian Astra Militarum regiments still in control of the planet and make the inevitable Tyranid victory over Kadaku “as painful as possible”. The post also included a screenshot from Kadaku, showing a damaged forest overgrown with fleshy Tyranid structures, as the alien Capillary Towers rise in the distance.
In addition to the new Operation tease, the Space Marine 2 community update also promised a free 4K texture pack DLC for PC players with powerful hardware to take advantage of, hotfixes to address crashing issues, and additional Space Marine 2 Armor customization features such as new color options for helmet lenses. All in all, the new Operation and additions seem to coincide somewhat with “Season 2” on Saber Interactive Space Marine 2 road map. The roadmap also teases a new “Lethal” difficulty setting, a Neo-Volkite Pistol weapon, and a new enemy. The roadmap doesn’t mention when the updates will arrive, but given the timing of the new Operation update, it might be safe to assume they’ll arrive in October.
Saber Interactive seems to be taking the right steps to cement Space Marine 2 and the Space Navy series as a whole in a new pillar of Warhammer 40,000 game adjustments. With consistent support, it could become a staple of online action games in the future.
